Know The Truth: Recovering The Theology Of Our Faith

"THEOLOGY." It sounds like a four-letter word to some people- even some Christians. Theology is for the egghead in the ivory tower or the professor in the seminary. Maybe a pastor should know a little himself, but what in the world does theology have to do with the Joe and Jane Schmos of the real world who have real mortgages to pay, real kids to raise and real problems to overcome?

Sadly, this is too often the way Christians view doctrine. This winter, we will seek to know the truth that has once and for all been delivered to us and learn first to cherish it, then guard it, only then to dispense it.

Our hope is that by reacquainting ourselves with the truths of God's word, we will walk through this world of falsehoods with joyful confidence, clinging to all that God has taught us. The great Spurgeon once said, "But, beloved friends, there is nothing new in theology but that which is false; only the old is true, for truth must be old, as old as God himself." May God bless us as we make a new commitment to Old Truth.
